An important part of our Vector Scientific, Inc. (VSI) company culture is ongoing research and continuing education. VSI’s Senior Engineer Zach Weimer, M.S., P.E. recently completed the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) three-day course entitled Applying Automotive EDR Data to Traffic Crash Reconstruction.
This SAE course, an approved educational program by ACTAR (Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstructionists), provided steps necessary to analyze Event Data Recorder (EDR) information at the highest level. Attendees garnered insight to analyze current and potential future EDR data set without regard to the manufacturer. Advanced analysis techniques were covered which allow for a more thorough and complete interpretation of EDR Data as well as reconciliation with other data sources.
Proper training and experience are required to interpret EDR data from today’s sophisticated vehicle systems and then clearly and concisely communicate the results to clients and juries. Mr. Weimer regularly participates in continuing education like this SAE course to advance his technical knowledge and proficiency in evolving accident reconstruction technology and methods.
