March is Brain Injury Awareness Month

BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS MONTH is an opportunity for organizations and professionals to bring attention to brain injuries including how they occur and how to prevent them.

According to the Brain Injury Association of America of the approximately 2.8 million people who sustain a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) each year, 13.2% are from motor vehicle accidents, 47.9% from falls, and 17.10% are struck by or against objects.

Vector Scientific, Inc. (VSI) experts are at the forefront of brain injury biomechanics research and forensic analysis of the mechanism and risk of brain injuries in automotive, sports/recreation, industrial/occupational, and premise accidents including mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and Traumatic Induced Neurological Disorder (TIND).

J. Michio Clark, Ph.D. of VSI has a specialty in brain injury biomechanics. His research has involved collection and analysis of brain injury data through test protocols that reflect the mechanisms of injury, reconstruction of over 400 brain injury events from video combined with physical testing and computer modeling, and assessment of helmet protection.

VSI President Jeff Wheeler, M.S. has decades of experience analyzing head impact events and his research on low-speed rear-end impacts continues to provide valuable data related to both neck and brain injury biomechanics. The Vector Scientific team continues to conduct research related to head impact injury biomechanics and has recently analyzed brain injury risk in over 1000 rear-end crash tests.

Dr. Clark and Mr. Wheeler can provide analysis of biomechanical forces and associated brain injury risk involved in your automotive, sport/recreation, industrial/occupational, and premise cases including providing expert testimony to educate the jury regarding mechanisms and differences between mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI/concussion), TBI, and chronic brain injuries.
